Eating Healthy in Goa

Author: Sam

According the the New Zealand Journal of Public Health , healthy foods are rising in price faster than their less healthy alternatives. I found eating healthy eats me out of house and home. It’s so much more expensive that junk food or processed food.  Most of my friends find it too expensive to eat healthy and they find it takes too much time to prepare. But, lately, they are slowly becoming aware that their habit of eating from fast-food establishment or at a Goa India Hotel isn’t so healthy and isn’t so Green. Even though it’s less expensive, they are looking for ways to go healthy and Green that won’t break the piggy bank.

So, my friends and I have done some research and come up with some ways to accomplish eating healthy and cheaply.  First, accept that some sacrifice on your part is necessary. Like needing time to prepare the healthy foods because you will be eating at home more often, packing a lunch for the next day and making healthy meals in larger portions to freeze the leftovers. We found if we either Tivo’d our favorite television show or gave up an hour of watching television actually turned out not to be an unpleasant sacrifice. Second, learn how and where to shop. I found shopping a Whole Foods http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/ grocery store to be extremely expensive and have found an alternative cheaper grocery store version of Whole Foods. Before you go grocery shopping, make a list for that week’s meals and stick to it, don’t go hungry, always shop around the perimeter of the store to avoid the more costly processed foods and of course use coupons. Another way to spend less on healthy foods is to buy frozen veggies, fruits and meats, they last longer.

Today’s fast pace lifestyle needs a revamping and re-evaluation by all of us living in the western world. Food has become too readily available and because of this, we have slowly ruined our health and our environment. Step back, slow down and eat a deliciously prepare healthy meal with your family and friends.
