A Long Day in Dubai

Author: Sam

After about a 14 hour flight from Melbourne, I arrived in Dubai. It was around 6am and it was already scorching hot! I cleared customs without a hitch and met up with some friends who have already been here in Dubai for about 2 weeks. The took me to their apartment, but I was really been overcome with the heat.

Due to just how hot it was, we spent most of the day at the Wild Wadi Water Park. I’m so glad my friends understood that I needed time to acclimate. This was an cool part, both figuratively and literally. I did a lot of body boarding in the wave pool and checked out the speed slide, but only twice, cause I got a major wedgie by the time I reached the bottom. My friends found this very amusing and laughed.

I was very hungry, so after the water park, we changed clothes and they took me to one of the best restaurants Dubai has and I had one of the most memorable meals. After eating, my friends took me to see the Deira City Center Mall. It was massive and it has well over a hundred shops, maybe two hundred. I really like how everything was either reasonably priced or even cheap! Especially the electronics and especially that it’s all Duty Free! I really went all out in the buying part. We spent only about 2 hours there, which is a good thing, our otherwise I’d have to mail my purchased back to Melbourne. Then they took me to the Gold Souk. It’s outdoors, but at least the sun was setting, so I could tell it was starting to cool off, but only by a few degrees. Most of the jewellery was not to my taste, but the prices were totally unbelievable. I ended up buying my dear friends rings to thank them for putting me up during my visit here in Dubai, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it here.

It’s been a very, very long day for me, travelling, water play, eating and shopping, it was time for me to crash on my friends sofa.
