Vienna is one of Europe’s historic cities with an amazing contemporary atmosphere and beautiful cityscape that belies its complicated somewhat troubled history. It has played a significant role in European cultural relations and has an amazing tradition of appreciation for the arts. There are many prominent performance companies in the city and it also known for having attracted some of the greatest writers , composers and performers throughout history. Mozart and Johann Strauss are just two of the brilliant minds that have been associated with the great city, and many more continue to be part of its performance scene.

Tourists who visit the city and stay in a Vienna hotel are frequently intrigued by all of the live performance options in the city and the diverse artistic genres that are represented there. Having a strong tradition with classical music and the opera, it comes as no surprise that there are many opera houses in the city. The Theater an der Wien, the Volksoper and Staatsoper are just a few of the prominent companies that are not only well supported and loved by the locals but are also extremely popular with tourists. The Volksoper is primarily associated with Viennese operettas , which continues to be a popular operatic tradition in the city.
