Great cities across the globe are noted for some general characteristics. Some of these cities are recognized for their historic importance, and corresponding landmarks that frequently go along with it. Other cities are honored for various aspects of their culture and contributions to the world. Cities like Paris have a few iconic associations, art, food and romance. While most of the world’s great cities have a specific twist on the standard characteristics, they all have one or more of them and are iconic for them. One thing that stands out as a major aspect of New York is its architecture. Next day blinds is a standard feature of popular buildings, homes and architecture, and New York City is full of designs that stand out above among others. In addition, the very mention of New York, brings other obvious aspects to mind. Among them, and at the top of the list, is likely to be the theatre scene. Another is the great shopping, art museums and international cuisine. Of course the list might go on, but the aspects that were just mentioned supports the comment that most of the world’s great cities have similar iconic aspects, though each has their own particular spin.

Meanwhile, the architecture of New York represents not only some of the most beautiful in the world, but also the diversity that the city itself stands for and symbolizes. Every great city has an incredible sky line, and New York’s is one of the most famous and easily recognized throughout the world. Among some of the more well known buildings found in the city are the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building and the Lincoln Center. These are just three of the great buildings that are easily recognized in the city’s skyline and all are popular with tourists. The Chrysler Building is one of the most famous icons in the city. Interestingly, it is also the one that people will most likely not know it’s name, but recognize it by site. It has an Art Deco design and was actually the tallest building in the world, for eleven months, before The Empire State Building was constructed in 1931. The Empire State Building is a 102-story icon located at the corner of 5th Avenue and West 34th Street. It also happens to be one of the most famous landmarks in the world, and one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. The Lincoln Center is home to the Metropolitan Opera House as well as Avery Fisher Hall. You can visit all of these and many more famous buildings while you’re in New York, and a simple tour on one of the buses will guide you past them and include an interesting story about their history and significance to the city. Designing any one of these buildings is the feat of a lifetime. Next Day Blind coupons allows similar accomplishments for your own home.

Atlantic City may not be in New York City, though it certainly attracts many of its residents. It is of course a city in New Jersey that is famous for its boardwalk, beautiful sandy beaches, great shopping opportunities, and also and most prominently for its major casinos and gambling opportunities. Of the New York casino hotels and the multiple gambling centers and casinos offered across the river in New Jersey, the Borgata in Atlantic city is the most spectacular and highest grossing of them all. Tourist who visit the big apple may chose to stay in one of its entertaining and casino oriented hotels, though if they are gamblers, they are certainly likely to cross the bridge and end up somewhere in Atlantic City.

The Borgata, whose name means literally in Italian the little village, lives up to its name. This spa, hotel and casino comprise an area and facilities that can account for all the needs, entertainment and services one can expect or request on any vacation or getaway. It has played a major role in the revitalization of the city’s gambling industry and has contributed an element of prestige to the circuit. It first opened in 2003 and at the time it was the first opening of a new casino the city had seen for thirteen years. Since it’s opening, it has held the title of highest grossing casino in the city for every month of its existence, except for one. Card sharks like to play some top dollar sit down poker games like Texas Hold’em and Seven and Five Card Stud varieties. Black Jack is another popular favorite and the casino frequently holds major tournaments. Top professionals in the field can often be seen playing here. In addition to the thrill of gambling, the Borgata Event Center has hosted performers such as Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi and Pearl Jam, making a stay here an unforgettable event.

New York is by most accounts the greatest city in the world, containing a multitude of peoples, cultures, and traditions.  One of the most exciting things about the city is the opportunity to meet different perspectives several times a day.  For this reason, it has always attracted a large share of artists and thinkers.  There is also a love of tradition here, and the roots of show business can be found in New York streets.  One of the pioneers of comedy, Morey Amsterdam found inspiration in New York City for his comic genius.

Born in Chicago in 1908 to Austrian immigrants, Morey Amsterdam began his show business career in vaudeville, playing straight man to his brother, when he was just a teenager.  His quick wit soon attracted the attention of audiences and producers, and he was on his way to fame.  He was known as a Human Joke Machine, which was both literal and metaphorical.  He attached a fake machine to his chest, which would print out jokes that he would read.  Of course, the paper print-outs were blank, and he could always count on his innate sense of humor to come through at the last minute.  Morey Amsterdam spent most of his life on the West coast, but his time spent on his own show, The Morey Amsterdam Show, gave him New York chops that would serve him through his colorful career.

New York Visit

Author: Sam

The last time I was in New York City I took a friend that was visiting from the other side of the country. Never having been to New York before she was very excited to be going. One thing on her agenda was seeing a Broadway play. Not my favorite thing as I would prefer Opera over Broadway but it was her visit. We got tickets to see Wicked. I wasn’t impressed and fortunately nether was she so we ended up leaving after the first act saving us from suffering through another act let alone moment of this horrible musical abomination. Fortunately it was a matinee performance so we were able to fit in some other tings to do. We went to a cool paper store where I got some new papers to fold into origami models. we did some other shopping and window shopping in mid town Manhattan. While making our way down toward the Empire State building. My friend had always wanted to go up it. Being from New York and living there all my life I had never given a tough to going up inside the Empire State building. So it was good to have someone come visit so I would do this. We made it to the observation deck for the sunset. It was a nice evening and the lights of the city came on as we watched the sun go down. After that we made our way back to street level and began making our way back to the train station. Of course by now we need to get some dinner to eat before we faint. We were passing a 5 star New York hotel and thought what a way to treat ourselves at the end of a long day of site seeing in New York City. My friend had a lot of fun, she had never been in a city that big before nor seen so many people and had that many choices of things to do all at the same time. It was overwhelming but fun for her.

The Chrysler Building in New York City is one of its long standing landmarks and major building icons of this great city. It is commonly considered to be an art deco sky scrapper and is located on the east side of Manhattan, the most prominent borough of this great global city. When it was first constructed it was the tallest building in the world, standing at over 1,000 feet. It was finally surpassed with the construction of the Empire State Building, which is another famous landmark in New York. The best New York city hotel offers views of these and other major buildings as well as providing the best of luxury accommodations and services to its guests.

The Chrysler Building serves as a classic example of art deco architecture. The American Institute of Architects ranked it as number nine in 2007 on its list of America’s Favorite Architecture. It was designed by William Van Alen with the intention of housing the Chrysler Corporation. Construction of the building began on September 19, 1928 during a period of tremendous competition to build the world’s tallest building. Construction occurred at a near neck breaking speed and an average of four floors a week were added to it.

Alen designed the building based on the main feature, which is a jewel like crown at the top. This class crown is easily spotted and recognized across the town, and the building is usually included in one of the bus tours that guides passengers the city, describing the major attractions and landmarks as well as incorporating significant aspects of New York’s history and contemporary society. Completion of the building occurred in May 29, 1930 making it one of the fastest constructed buildings in history. When the building was first opened it featured a viewing gallery on its 71st floor. This attracted numerous people, though the gallery was closed in 1945.

New York is truly an amazing city, and has attracted some of the world’s best minds. People are drawn to the energy and the promise here, not to mention the astounding diversity of cultures, languages, and points of view.  Larry David, the creator of Seinfeld, is a very peculiar New Yorker with a very peculiar point of view, which has merged with the heartbeat of the city, and even the nation.  Born in Brooklyn in 1947, he earned college degrees in history and business.  He began to doing stand-up comedy when he was young, to very little success.  His story, in fact, is very inspiring in its bleakness.  He worked for a time as a writer for the show Fridays (where he met Michael Richards) and then SNL (where he met Julia Louise Dreyfus).  These stints were fairly short, offered some pay, but no real success.

But show business is funny, and strange.  In his early stand-up days, he met Jerry Seinfeld, and they became fast friends.  Seinfeld did not forget this when, 20 years later, he was offered a show by NBC, and told them he wanted to work with his old friend, Larry David.  The rest of that story is history, and the smashing success of Seinfeld helped David to leverage another hit show, Curb Your Enthusiasm.  More recently, Larry David worked with Woody Allen on his new film, Whatever Works.  There’s no question that what does work is Larry David’s ironic, self-effacing, and cynical sense of humor, that seems to have struck a golden nerve, after some long struggles.

The creator of the Coney Island Circus Sideshow, Dick Zigun had stated that the island better hold on.  He promises the most bizarre circus show of strange oddballs and outrageous freaks the audiences of Coney Island has every seen.  However, John Strong the 3rd, famous in the traveling freak show circuit but new to Brooklyn, said basically in response, to “bring what you’ve got”.  Criticizing Zigun’s circus, he called it a “show” with a bunch of weird animals, but only one human performer.  Zigun responded by saying there are many human performers, but not one act involves animals.  The two were involved in quite a feud when the city of Brooklyn stepped in to announce that it would be neither circus on the island this summer.  Plans were announced for the more family friendly show put on year after year, none other than the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Meanwhile, Joe Sitt, happens to be the New York developer who could become in charge of the future of the entire island and park.  The city has wanted to revitalize Coney Island for some time and fears that the freak shows will not allow that to happen.  Mr. Sitt is a patron of John Strong.  Mr. Sitt has also made proposals for his own ideas in the past, and his childhood friend is a city councilman, and the fear of Brooklyn is that this will affect the outcome of the decisions that will decide the future of Coney Island.  Many businesses have been evicted by Mr. Sitt already, including the boutiques and five star hotels of New York, the batting cages and one of the amusement parks.  Fears remain that he will eventually be responsible for turning the once vibrant tourist spot and one of the most beloved neighborhoods of New York, into a desolated ghost town of empty buildings and fading colors.  Meanwhile, the site for the Ringling Brothers Circus has been moved to an abandoned lot and the Strong Freak Show will run from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
